In this blog I give a short overview of the six most important reasons why a lot of online business are not assets, but liabilities.
An online business is an asset when you make a profit and as long you are able to make a profit. The problem for a lot of home business owners is that an online business doesn’t reaches the status of an asset.
In this situation, an online business cost you more money to run, than it brings money in (cash flow). So the one thing to keep in your mind is that also an business can be an liability.
The reason why this is so important, has to do with the top six biggest mistakes made by home business owners. Here are six main reasons why your home business is an liability, and NOT an asset:
1. NOT having an strategic vision and plan, only some vague wish or need as “want to make money, or “I need money now”. We’re all opportunity seekers at first hand. But the point is that a lot of people in the home bushiness industry will STAY opportunity seekers because all they do is chasing tails like dogs….They chasing the shiny objects and opportunities that gurus send by masses to their mail box every day. Stop doing this, because it doesn’t bring you anywhere. Focus on one good business opportunity or maybe two, but no more than that. Start to think strategic. No more “ I want to make money” , but I want to make an X amount of money in an X amount of time.. Do you notice the difference in perspective?
2. The second biggie mistake is to act as a pushy sales man armed with a very old school marketing tactics, ready to fire missiles (deals) at every occasion, place and everyone where they can without adding some extra value. Don’t want to turn off people? Then stop doing this.
3. Bad or no following up your leads. Most people simply don’t buy the first time when they see your offer. So this is why it is important to build a relationship with them via follow up emails and social media updates that provide valuable information for them.
4. Lack of good traffic or buying crappy traffic to build your list and start to generate leads. This a serious hurdle for a lot people. Traffic is the ‘heartbeat’ of your business. Without traffic you get no leads. This has also to do with getting your offer in front of the right audience. When you have found a good offer to market, then traffic is the next big thing where you need to educate yourself about. The key is to find credible traffic providers so you can simply avoid the huge bunch of crap on the internet about traffic generation.
5.Not building your email list. The heart of an profitable business is an responsive email list. The most valuable traffic that you can get as an marketer, is the traffic that comes from a responsive list, from people that know you and trust you already.
6.Wanting to do everything yourself. Trying to do everything yourself is the quick way to quit. My advice: find a mentor who has an successful online business running themselves so that can teach you from their experiences and struggles.
